 founded by Father John McLoughlin, MM. The School was founded in 1963 by the Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers in Hong Kong. It was named after Bishop James Walsh

 who was imprisoned by the Communist China at that time in Shanghai. Bishop Walsh was the last Western missioner to be released by Communist China when he was released on 10 July 1970.

In the 1975, Bishop Walsh Primary School was handed over by the Maryknoll to the Catholic Diocese of Hong Kong

 and is now run by the latter. In 2009, pm section of the School became a full day school and in 2010 moved to a new campus in Kowloon Tong
