He was continuously a member of a legislature, either parliament or assembly since 1952, except 1977-1980(anti-emergency wave), until his death. He was also a undisputed president of State INTUC President till death. In his regime a proverb 'Baba naam kevalam' was famous, which means there is no name except 'baba'.
