 and lies in an agricultural area, close to the M-2 motorway, to which it is being connected by two interchanges. The town is named after a nearby village called Purana Bhalwal (Old Bhalwal).

Bhalwal town is located on Gujrat Phalia – Sargodha road at a distance of 30 km from Sargodha at its north. It is situated near motorway (M2) in the west at a distance of 11 km from Salam interchange. Lower Bhalwal Canal is passing at its north side at a distance of 3 km. It also lies on Sargodha

Bhalwal is an agricultural city famous for the production of "Kinno" (Orange). So it is also called "California of Pakistan". It is situated by River Jhelum which flows near its Sub-Division"Bhera".

It is mostly a farming community, major products include rice, wheat, sugarcane, and citrus fruit. Mandarin oranges are a major fruit. The largest employer is NOON sugar mills, which also owns the Nurpur noon dairy farm.
