Bezer a place in the wilderness just east of the Jordan and east of Hebron, placed there for the Reubenites, and then over time had turned into to be a place of refuge. The Reubenites were people that were in a revolution against Moses and the laws for which he gave and the guidelines that he was setting up. The Reubenites in this time had numbered about forty-eight thousand people, which were enough to be its own army if needed in that time. In time passing Bezer became a place of refuge and there were many people that would flee there to escape the penalty for a while for what they have done. Being a place of refuge Bezer was to be a “safe-haven” for those that were accused of manslaughter. The reason this was a “safe-haven” was because the family of those that were wrongly murdered they, back in the day, had a right to take revenge on that person. So whoever was accused of a murder would run to the refuge and be safe, because when there the family that the dead person was a part of could not harm that other person when they were in that place of refuge. Although these cities of refuge were never meant to be a harboring place for murders this is what they had turned into. Also in these cities, once a person fled to it they could not just leave when they wanted to or when the family had forgiven them. They had to stay in that city until the high priest of that city had died or if that person had died themself. Bezer was put in place to “harbor” these murders so that they could remain safe for a little while. Also Bezer was the resting place for the Reubenites so that it could be somewhat of a resting place for them as well, guessing that they did not know that Bezer was going to turn into one of the six cities of refuge at that time. Bezer had also filled one of the three promises of Abraham that coves a great nation, land, and that his seed would stay in line and that it would not stop. Today Bezer is known as the modern ruined village of Burazin. Burazin today runs about three million people and is still going strong. There are not very many verses in the Bible that cover Bezer, but Deuteronomy 4:43, Joshua 20:8, Joshua 21:36, 1 Chronicles 6:78, and 1 Chronicles 7:37 all talk about Bezer and what it was there for. Bezer a safe haven, a resting place, a no kill zone, and a place that, although the name has been changed, is still around today.
