 (land tax). Then every village leader went to king with their bulls (At that time every body was supposed to travel in SAGAD GADI (bull craft with two woodmade wheels and two bulls). King was sitting in his chamber when Behera village leader arrived to palace, suddenly a mysterious thing happened when king saw the two bulls of Behera's village leader, the he realised that it is not two of them were bull, actually the duos were tigers. Then the king decided to leave all his land tax to behera and with regards he declared to give some land as much Gahantia wants as king saw his courage. Then Behera Gahantia earned some area with some village and it named as Dandapat Anchala. Dandapat Anchal is made by 14 Panchayat (Dharamgarh Block and Koksara Block).

Demographics

According to census 2001 Total Population of Behera was 4,948, where it constitutes 49% of male and 51% female.
Behera had a total literacy population of 1,947, from which male literacy 71% and female literacy 29%. As per census 2011 it is estimated that the population of Behera is near about 5700.

Written and Spoken languages‎

The chief communicative language of the village is Kosli or Sambalpuri.Hindi is treated as the second language for communication. English and Oriya are used for official purpose only. Being a part of Orissa, Oriya is used as medium of education in school. English is used for higher education. People of this village speak Hindi more fluently and correctly than Oriya.Kosli language is the mother tongue in the village and generally kosli languge is spoken by most of the people of the village except some community people. Kosli language is considered as a dialect of Oriya.In the Census of India- 2001, it is shown as a mother tongue grouped under Oriya language.

A movement is gaining momentum in Western Orissa for Inclusion of Kosli (also referred to as Sambalpuri) language in the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution.
The Kosli language and literature is rich and vast. It has publications in a wide variety of subjects such as architecture, astrology, medicine, music, arts, philosophy, and literature.

Its songs, dances, and drama have been popular across the world while its cinema has also gained international attention.

While there are newspapers and a large number of periodicals being published in Kosli, the national broadcaster All India Radio and various television channels are also airing programmes in the language, according to the memorandum.

Cultivation

Generally in Behera many kind of cereal crops and pulse crops are cultivated mostly sugar cane and mustard.It is a market place for surrounding small villages and also one of the main grain collection center in Kalahandi District.Most persons are dependent on agriculture as their earning source.Two rice mills are situated here to process the paddy.Rice is the main grain which is cultivated in this area.
