Old Batlagundu is the mother village of Batlagundu.Mariamman temple at Old Batlagundu is the main goddess in this region,and the festival being held in this temple at every year is famous in this region.

The economy of the town is mostly dependent on agricultural products, and is home to a banana leaf commission, coconut powder exports, spinning mills, and other businesses. With its proximity to the foothills of the Kodaikanal mountain range, there are wholesale businesses that involve vegetables and fruits (carrots, apples, blue cabbage, tomato, and coffee) that grow in the mountains.

, Batlagundu(PIN: 624202) had a population of 22,007. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Batlagundu has an average literacy rate of 76%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with 54% of the males and 46% of females literate. 9% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Subiksha Trust. Its located in Oorkala samy kovil street. The trust helps the Poor and Old age people.

Parasparam Trust is a trust located a village near Batlagundu. The trust helps the semi-urban female children.

Chanard is a trust that has branches in Theni, Periyakulam, Andipatti, Kodaikanal, Bodi, and Kumbum. They are involved in helping women's self-help groups, organic farming, AIDS prevention, and waste land development.

The Vivekananda Tuition Center was started by Mr. Mohan in Old Batlagundu for the needy and poor children in that locality. This institution was started in early 2002 with an initial enrollment of 15, and now it has nearly 400 students. He boosted the Higher Secondary Passing Percentage in that locality. Career guidance is provided for the students. The institution is now reigstered as a Trust under the Indian Trust Act as "Swami Vivekananda Educational Service Trust".

Dr.Vijayan who is mozhipor Thiyagi (Tamil Savent) born this city. He part as a town secretory in DMK more than 20 years. And also part as a Director in Co-operative Socity more than 5 years. Very famous speaker in this area.

Batlagundu is the birth place of Freedom Fighter Subramania Siva and novelist Rajam Krishnan.

Kanaku pillai family from Old Batlagundu is one of the famous group in this area,Sethuramasamy pillai and Sankaralingam pillai are the famous personalities from this family.They served as the boss for this village once.They have given many donations in this area

Sri Lakshmi Narayana Perumal Temple

Sri Sendraya Perumal Temple

There is an ancient temple of Sri Sendraya Perumal situated on a hill near old Batlagundu.
Mr Kannan is a priest in this temple. He is involved in developmental activities like Anna Thaanam (a programme provide free meals) and building new Mandabams (halls). People of all faiths and religions visit this temple. The temple festival is held in Kottaipatti village every other year. The temple is located on the way to the Kodaikanal hills.
