. In Sept 2008 the partnership was formalised into a federation and in 2009 the two schools merged and the two sites were redeveloped into the Basildon Academies.

Between 2009 and 2011 £45m has been spent rebuilding and developing the Basildon Academies.

Although the Academies have been steadily improving upon the GCSE results of the predecessor schools, OFSTED inspected the academies in the Spring of 2011 and concluded that they were making 'inadequate progress'.

With the completion of the £45m building project in the Autumn of 2011, many staff were disappointed to hear the Executive Principal, Alan Roach, announce his retirement.

The new Principal, Rory Fox, took over in Sept 2011 and focused on improving student behaviour. The introduction of a firm behaviour code has significantly reduced bullying and led to a calm and orderly environment inside the academies. This has been noticed by the national press and led to significant public interest and support. By focusing initially upon discipline the Basildon Academies is reducing disruption in lessons. This improves student learning and instills the attitudes and skills which will enable students to become good citizens and good employees.

Sports and Activities

The Academies are developing a strong sporting tradition which in 2011 saw an academy football team reach the quarter finals of the English Schools' FA under 16 Cup. The Academies are also developing a wider range of sports which includes scuba diving.
