Goodwin currently serves on the Senate's Finance, Judiciary and Public Safety, and State Government Innovation and Veterans committees. Her special legislative concerns include jobs, budget, consumers, and health care.

Goodwin also served on the Columbia Heights School Board from November, 2009, until becoming a member of the Senate, and has also served as Adjunct Professor at the Hamline University Graduate School of Business in St. Paul since 2008, teaching Legislative Practice and Government Contracting.
