The club is well known for its strong backing by the local Macedonian community.

History

In 1975, Yagoona Macedonia competed in their first domestic season and their first recorded game by the Bankstown Soccer Federation was against Padstow. As the years passed, so did the players and new faces began to emerge in the ever-growing Macedonian Sydney-based club. Gradually the club began to be a power house of Soccer in Australia and changed its name to Sydney Macedonia SC not long after 1975.

In 1988, they were promoted to New South Wales Division 2 where they finished 3rd and the following year (1989). The club was Champion of Division 2, losing only 3 games all season and received promotion to New South Wales Division 1. They finished 6th in their first year in Division 1.

In 1992, Sydney Makedonija played its first game in the elite league of NSW. The following year, the finished second however went onto win the grand final scoring a goal in the final minute against Blacktown City and were Premiers of 1993.

1994 was the best year in the club's history. The squad went through the season just losing 1 game out of 22 and winning 16. They scored 52 goals and conceded 9 in all season, and went on to win the grand final. The silverware did not stop there - Sydney Makedonija went on to play Sydney Olympic in 1994 for the prestigious Waratah Cup at Marconi Stadium. A Sellout crowd witnessed Sydney Macedonia def.  and were crowned Champions of all Clubs in NSW. The treble has been completed.

The next bit of silverware was in 2001 when the club played in Division 1. That year their home ground was fitted with improved lighting and new covering. This was also year that the club regained participation in the NSW Premier League.

In 2004, Bankstown Lions finished once again in the top 4 and made it into the grand final. In 2005 Saso Petrovski joined the team shortly before being snapped up by A League Club Sydney FC

Bankstown also struggled with losing mastermind coach Andy Papoulias (Cyprus), Richard Luksic (Malaysia) as well as Buddy Farrah and Chad Gibson (Queensland Roar) until Peter Tsekenis took on the role of Player Coach. Bankstown had a tough season, but continued their 100% record in Grand Finals bydefeating Bonnyrigg White Eagles
