History

The Coast Guard Act 1994 was passed by the Parliament in September 1994. Formally, the Coast Guard came into being on 14 February 1995 and started her operational activities in December 1995 with two patrol craft received from Bangladesh Navy on loan. Since then, the Coast Guard has been rapidly expanded and have been active in several high-profile anti-piracy operations in close conjunction with the Navy

Bangladesh Coast Guard, being the principal maritime law enforcing authority implements both national and international maritime laws.

At present the Bangladesh Coast Guard has the following zonal command namely East, West, South and the Dhaka sub zone.
