. Its current headteacher is Mrs E Newton. The age group for attendance at Aston is Y7 to Y11, and then Y12 to Y13 for Aston's Sixth Form.

The school has recently been rated as outstanding following an inspection by Ofsted. The school was rated as satisfactory in the previous inspection.

The coalition government has recently passed an act which allows comprehensive schools to convert to new style academies. Only schools considered good or outstanding are invited to convert.

The governors of the school have recently voted to start the procedure to convert to an academy. Should this occur the school would be taken out of local authority administration and would effectively operate as an independent school.
