It has an attached post 16 centre called Southwest Bristol Post 16 centre. The sixth form centre has the freedom of college, but the support of a school. This prepares pupils for the next stage in their life.

The school opened on 8 September 1955 as Ashton Park Secondary Modern School, built in the grounds of Ashton Court

Performance

The current headteacher is Mrs Thomas, a new headteacher replacing Mr Gardner. The GCSE and AS/A2 Level results have been increasing year on year for at least the past 6 years. The school has seen its 6th successive year (2009) of improvement with 69% of its 193 students gaining 5 or more A* to C grades. (Some students gained as many as 15 higher grades).

School buildings

The main school has recently been rebuilt, it was finished by September 2010. It is fitted with toilets on every floor, CCTV, recording studios for music studies and specialist art class rooms for sixth form students. There is also a new canteen as well as the old one with a new card swiping system, like a credit card, so no money is exchanged at the counter. This saves time and is more hygenic.
