boxed set (1995). Apomps received further detail in the boxed set Hellbound: The Blood War (1996), and in Faces of Evil: The Fiends (1997).

Description

In his true form, Apomps is said to resemble a grossly disfigured baernaloth, though he is said to be capable of manifesting in the form of either a farastu, kelubar, or shator demodand. He is the one who breathes life into the rotting corpses of Carceri, transforming them into farastu, and who transforms the farastu into more powerful demodands as they are needed. According to rumor, he presents each demodand with an obsidian triangle that acts as a personal link to him and possibly allows the demodands access to the memories of their entire race. Some believe that the triangles are the eyes and ears of Apomps, allowing him to see and hear wherever his creations go.

History

Apomps is thought to have been a baernaloth, one of the primal creators of Evil. While the other baernaloths were deliberating on their chosen race, the yugoloth

s, Apomps went out and created a race on his own, expending a great deal of his own power to do so: the demodands.

The other baernaloths rejected Apomps's creation, claiming they were impure and tainted with Chaos (an ironic charge, as the yugoloths would later be tainted with Chaos and Law as well, and need to be purged). Apomps and his creations retreated to Carceri

, where they dwell still.

Or so it is said. An alternate myth claims the yugoloths were already created when Apomps made his demodands, and Apomps's creations were only a failed attempt to mimic them.

Relationships

Apomps seeks vengeance against the baernaloths who rejected him and their yugoloth creations. As a result, the demodands attack yugoloths on sight, and inspire mortal philosophers and poets to preach hatred against the 'loths. Apomps's relationship with Nerull

, who often summons demodands to do his will, is unknown.
