Career

Gibson began his collegiate football career at Hinds Junior College in Jackson, MS. After two successful seasons at Hinds, he was recruited by universities in Mississippi, as well as Nebraska, Illinois, Cincinnati, and Murray State (KY). He decided to play for Coach Mike Gottfried and his Wide Tackle Six defense at the University of Cincinnati. Gibson learned from Defensive Coordinator Ron Zook (Current Head Coach, University of Illinois), and to this day, Antonio tells people that, “the things that Ron Zook taught me in college carried me through the NFL. I never had a position coach better than Ron Zook.”

Gibson played defensive back at the University of Cincinnati during the 1981 and 1982 football seasons. A team captain for the 1982 squad, he received the following honors:
  • Two time AP Honorable Mention All-American
  • Two time All-Metro conference selection
  • Two time UC Bearcat Outstanding Defensive Player of the Year


Gibson's professional career included three seasons with the USFL's Philadelphia Stars, two of them Championship seasons. When the league folded, he signed with the New Orleans Saints in 1986 and was the starting Safety until retiring in 1993. He was named to Football Digest's All-Rookie team in 1986. His Head Coach during his entire professional career was Jim Mora, Sr. His Position Coach was longtime NFL Head Coach/Defensive Coordinator Dom Capers.

Gibson also played briefly with the Dallas Cowboys (1990) and the Birmingham Fire of NFL Europe (1992).

Gibson is a Certified Personal Trainer through NESTA (National Exercise & Strength Trainers Association), is a Nike/SPARQ (Speed, Power, Agility, Reaction, and Quickness) Certified Sports Performance Trainer. Coach Antonio is also certified by the US Youth Soccer Kid Safe program, he is insured, and CPR-certified. Coach Antonio earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Management from California Coast University in Santa Ana, California.

Gibson established the ALL-STAR PERFORMANCE TRAINING program in order to help All Athletes; Male & Female further enhance their Speed, Strength, Agility, Quickness, Skills, Flexibility, and Conditioning. Each participant will also be exposed to the mental preparation & perseverance necessary, in order to become a Better Athlete.

Gibson understands the importance of giving back to the community and has been involved in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Lutheran Social Services, Jefferson Parish (LA) Juvenile Services, Versailles Learning Center, Celebrities Care, Audubon Nature Institute, Pop Warner Football, Brazos Valley Youth Football Association, & the College Station Mayor’s Council on Physical Fitness.
