Jacobs is renowned for his 'grumpy old man' persona, and works this into his performances. He has quietly forged a reputation as one of the unfunniest men in broadcasting , with an infectious cough and a string of constantly-repeated and trite catchphrases. He also claims to have invented the carpet slipper.

He is an avid Chelsea FC fan.

Paul Hawksbee and Andy Jacobs became friends in 1998 when Andy invited Paul to join the team on ITV’s Fantasy World Cup. Andy had watched as much football as was humanly possible during the 50-plus shows he’d produced for Baddiel & Skinner and thought he could do with some company.
