Tambon Sam Suan, Ban Tao and Ban Thaen were separated from Phu Khiao district to created Ban Thaen minor district (King Amphoe) on June 16 1965. It was official upgraded to a full district on February 25 1969.

Tambon Sam Suan, Ban Tao and Ban Thaen were separated from Phu Khiao district to created Ban Thaen minor district (King Amphoe) on June 16 1965. It was official upgraded to a full district on February 25 1969.
