International career

At the 2007 Japan Invite, Schmitt placed fourth in the 800 m freestyle relay, ninth in the 200 m freestyle, eleventh in the 400 m freestyle, and eighteenth in the 100 m freestyle. Schmitt took bronze in both the 200 m and 100 m freestyle at the 2007 Junior Pan Pacific Championships.
