The full Grand Prix circuit was last raced on in 1964, but part of it (the Club Circuit) is still open and was used for racing until the early 1980s, having been maintained and operated by the Aintree Circuit Club

At present time, the track is often used by young karting schools and events.
A manager at Aintree Race-course on 28 May 2009 announced that they and Liverpool city council are currently considering whether to turf over the track or redevelop it and bid to bring back small single seat racing events like Formula Palmer Audi, Formula Ford and Formula Renault. This is with the intention of re-starting motor racing events at the track in 2010 at the earliest.
