Admiral Seymour school was named in honour of Sir Edward Hobart Seymour

, a British Naval officer who took part in the capture of Canton.

The school consists of two separate buildings. Construction of the first building began in 1900 and finished in 1901, while the second building was constructed in 1907. The school was opened for students in 1907. At the same time as the school was opened for elementary school students, classes began for Britannia Secondary School

in the Admiral Seymour building in 1908, these students were moved to a new building in 1910.

In those days, most people still went to Lord Strathcona even though Seymour was one block away from their homes because of the trains that were always coming. In the 1970s, four mothers of children that go to Seymour protested that the train shouldn't come 30 minutes before the school bell rang. They won and agreed with the government to build a bridge over the train tracks so that they could go to school. After that happened, Seymour started to have a rivalry to see who would get more students.

Seymour participates in Basketball, Track & Field, Soccer,Volleyball and Football

Trivia

Seymour is the only elementary school in Vancouver to win 3 Championships (Basketball, Soccer, and Flag football in ‘05) from its Grad of '05s. The team had outstanding coaching from Scooter and Paul and great supporter of the Seymour principal Rick Logie. With their first championship, the principal put on the song We Are the Champions by Queen on the P.A. Following the next two championships.
The Film "It", Filmed in 1990 and written by Stephen King (Book & Film Adaption), was Filmed on premise of Seymour School.
