Early life

Chamberlain was born in Colebrook, Connecticut

 on December 7, 1837. He was a student of civil engineering at the Williston Seminary in Easthampton, Massachusetts

. He worked at father's engineering firm for many years. He then entered into banking and served as president of the New Britain National Bank in 1881. He also served as vice president of the Meriden Savings Bank.

Politics

Chamberlain became a member of the Connecticut House of Representatives in 1877. He held that position till 1878. He also served as Connecticut's state comptroller from 1901 to 1902. He became the Governor of Connecticut on January 7, 1903. During his term, Chamberlain he signed legislation that sanctioned the establishment of the Connecticut State Police. He also endorsed laws that assisted workers. He left office on January 4, 1905.

Later years

After leaving the office, Chamberlain returned to his several business interests in Meriden. He died on May 15, 1911, aged 73.
