declared their interest to host the 2012 AFF Cup. However, following the meeting of the AFF Council on 19 February 2011, Malaysia and Thailand have been announced as hosts of the preliminary round.

Qualification

Qualification is expected to be held in October 2012 based on schedules of previous qualifying tournaments. It will involve the five lower ranked teams in Southeast Asia. All teams play in a round-robin tournament format and the top two teams qualify for the tournament proper.
