The software was developed by two brothers, Paul and David King; after they experienced similar frustrations while working freelance, the brothers wanted to create a product that would let them track time, expenses and business miles in a single location.

In August, 2011, 1DayLater adopted an invoice template system in the hope of reaching out to the design community. This allows designers to create and upload their own invoice designs to be used on the platform.

The company was formed in 2009 under the company name 1DayLater Ltd. It has one commercial product of the same name. It remains privately held and located in Newcastle Upon Tyne, United Kingdom.
