In September of 1915 recruiting began to form a reinforcement company to be sent overseas. Due to the rapid response to this recruiting drive, it was considered possible to raise an entire battalion

 from the island.

Mobilization was authorized on 3 December, 1915, and by 15 March, 1916, was completed. After training at Valcartier the unit sailed from Halifax

 on board S.S. Empress of Britain on 16 July, 1916. The strength of the 105th Battalion leaving Canada was 37 Officers, 1,107 other ranks, commanded by Lieut. Col. A.E. Ings.

It was eventually absorbed by the 104th, which itself was eventually absorbed by the 13th Reserve Battalion.
