the connection you seek is discussed, in depth, in Crossing the Rubicon by Micheal Ruppert. I recommend it highly. It is one of the mostly densely information packed books I have ever read and only post grad levels of education can understand all the connections. Remember to ask yourself as you read it, are US intentions as demonstrated by the actions of the CIA evil? The actions exhibited by them may appear unethical on the surface, but what is the ultimate goal. I'm sure you know that, in politics, its all about the ultimate goal of the policies being promulgated.
a more current question might be: what is the connection between Afghanistan Opium trade and the pipeline from Turkmenistan oil fields via Pakistan.
