ZBTHS is fed by three major middle schools, including North Prairie Junior High of Winthrop Harbor, IL, Beach Park Middle School of Beach Park, IL and Zion Central Middle School of Zion, IL. ZBTHS is one of the most diverse high schools in the state of Illinois. The district is 39.5% Caucasian, 30.7% African American, 23.3% Hispanic, 2.6% Asian and Pacific Islander, and .3% Native American, providing a diverse learning environment.

Academics

Zion-Benton offers an extensive list of academic courses, including many physical education courses, business courses, Driver's Ed, Mathematics, Science, English, History, NJROTC, Performing Arts, Visual Arts, Family and Consumer Sciences, and foreign languages (Spanish, French, and German). On top of regular course, Zion offers the following AP courses: Calculus, Government, US History, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, French, Spanish, English language, English literature, Statistics, and Psychology.

Athletics

Zion-Benton, along with New Tech in a combined athletic program, competes in the North Suburban Conference and Illinois High School Association

. Having a consistently strong basketball team, the Zion-Benton Zee-Bees Boys Basketball team became the IHSA Class 4A State Runner Ups in the 2007-08 season. Also the ZB Majorettes have won 18 straight Illinois State championships, and have placed nationally several times.
