Club career

While Zhao Xuri originally started his professional football career with second tier football club Dalian Saidelong he did not make an impact within the team, however top tier side Sichuan Guancheng

During the 2003 league season he would quickly rise to prominence and immediately established himself as an integral member within the team by playing in 27 league games and scoring 2 goals in his debut season. The following season was to prove significantly more difficult as Zhao Xuri was injured through most of the season only making 9 appearances. He was still highly regarded enough to be transferred to Dalian Shide where due to his versatility he would continue to establish himself as a regular and go on win the 2005 Chinese Super League title.

International career

His performances for Sichuan Guancheng were impressive enough for an immediate call up to the senior national team to play in the 2003 East Asian Cup. On December 7, 2003 he would make his debut during the tournament to play in a game against South Korea
