The lagerphone (or Mendoza or Monkey Stick) was played by Samuel Brettingham when the band toured and recorded Antiquarian Party Ballad For Dames. It is made up of a long staff of wood adorned with bottle caps and attached to a heavy boot which is then stomped and occasionally hit with a smaller wooden stick.
