. The school was opened in 1987. It is extremely small, with currently 197 pupils on its rolls, in a school space that is only suitable for 169 pupils under Welsh Assembly Government guidelines. The school is heavily oversubscribed,and is now managing an additional overspill site called Tan-y-Eos which is sited at Ninian Park School in the neighbouring district of Grangetown. There are currently 28 pupils at the Tan-y-Eos site in two infant year groups, that figure is expected to rise significantly in the September 2009. There are recent plans from Cardiff County Council to close another Canton School and re-establish Treganna as a two-form entry school in 2011..

By today a catchment school Tan Yr Eos has emerged. It is located in the back of Ninian Park school will reach its fifth year open in September 2011 (Children will reach year 4) and is fit to burst! This catchment takes part in Eisteddfod Compitition, the yearly school games and the Christmas shows with the other children.
