The Young Liberals Austria or simply JuLis formerly known as Liberal Students Forum or LSF is a liberal
political party in Austria
.
From 1993 to 2009 it was the youth and student wing of the Liberal Forum
.
It was named after a German youth organisation with the name "Junge Liberale".
In 1993, Heide Schmidt
left the Austrian Freedom Party with four other members of parliament due to the party's shift towards right-wing populism
under the leadership of Jörg Haider
and founded the Liberal Forum
. The same year, the Liberal Student Forum was founded as the youth and student wing of the party.
The Liberal Students had been running for elections for the national and various university councils of the student union ÖH
since 1995.
In 2009 many changes happened on the one hand the LSF was renamed in JuLis "JuLis-Junge Liberale Österreich"
on the other hand former MEP
Karin Resetarits
gave her support to the JuLis not their former mother party.
This led to the JuLis founding an independent party with the same name
, however their candidate Alegra-Isabel Raising reached only 0.7% in the European Parliament elections and therefore failed to get a seat.
In 2010 there were rumours whether the JuLis would fuse with the economical liberal BZÖ, there were talks Scherak stated, but however he negated a cooperation.
At the 2011 elections the JuLis got 4.32% of the votes and managed to achieve three seats in the national council of the ÖH.
Today there strongest existing link is the connection to the German Young Liberals "Junge Liberale"
who even share the same logo and name.
