"You and Me" was jointly written by band members Justin Hayward
and Graeme Edge
. It primarily features Justin Hayward on lead vocals. John Lodge, Mike Pinder
, and Ray Thomas
also provide backing vocals during the song's chorus. Pinder and Thomas also sing the lead vocals at the end of the song, during the final rendition of the chorus.
Like their previous song "Question" (from A Question of Balance
), which principally was a protest of the Vietnam War
