Founded in 1832, The Yardley Inn originally went by the name of The White Swan. Just a stone’s throw from the Delaware River

in Yardley, PA, the restaurant served as a stopping point for farmers traveling to the Philadelphia Front Street Market. After crossing the covered bridge on the corner of Afton Avenue, many of these travelers would stop at the inn to rest and spend the night.

Due to its convenient location and availability of overnight accommodations, The White Swan became well known by barge and boat travelers. At times, travelers would sound a whistle, prompting the friendly innkeeper to appear with baskets of rum that were lowered to the coats in exchange for coins. The inn continued in this way until 1882, when a Temperance Reform Movement

The inn continued to enjoy much success until the flood of 1955. The White Swan closed its doors until 1958, when it reopened as The Yardley Inn. Today, Bob and Robin Freed are the owners of The Yardley Inn Restaurant & Bar.

In recent years, The Yardley Inn has won various awards including 2008 Neighbors' Choice Awards for Best Lunch in Bucks County from the Philadelphia Inquirer and Philadelphia Magazine's Philly Cooks!
