. There are approximately 1200 full-time students in grades 9 through 12. The current principal is Jay Pankratz, who has been the principal since the middle of the 2009-2010 school year. He took over form Mr. Glen Roger, who retired earlier that year.

Yale is well-known for its academic programs, particularly in the sciences, especially chemistry. In 2006, 48 of 265 Yale graduates received provincial scholarships. This is a percentage of approximately 18.1%, well above the provincial average. As well, the average marks for provincial exams exceeded the provincial average in all areas.

Yale is also known for its Hockey Academy program, which combines on-ice training with academics. [www.yalehockeyacademy.com]
Students in this program have to maintain a B average (73% cumulative) in order to qualify for this program. Several students have gone on to win scholarships as well as be drafted in the Western Hockey League. Yale is currently expanding its sport academy to include baseball and softball.

The school has an accelerated academic program including "honours" courses in the lower grades, leading to Advanced Placement

 courses in the senior year. Currently the school offers AP courses in English Literature, French, Calculus AB, Biology, Chemistry, Physics B, Psychology, Studio Art (2-D and 3-D).

Since the 1990-1991 school year, a musical theatre course has been offered to students in all grades, and performances takes place sometime in February every year.

Most students entering the school come from William A. Fraser Middle School, a public middle school for grades 6-8. Yale Secondary School and William A. Fraser Middle School are very near one another, with only a 400 metre gravel track separating the two. This track is shared by both schools.

There is also a fairly high number of international students, mostly from East Asian countries, especially South Korea and China.

Yale has made the provincials in every sport played. The Sr. Girls Volleyball team took 3rd place at the AAA Provincial with Sophie Schlagintweit off to Arizona State, while the Sr. Boys Volleyball team took 7th under the coaching of Mrs. Burdeyny. The Jr. Boys Basketball team took 3rd, under Coaches Friesen and Klein, in the Jr. Tournaments while the Sr. Boys won the AAA Boys Basketball Provincials in Vancouver last March with Josh Kufske, Joel Friesen, and Jasper Moedt off to UFV and Caleb Klassen to Briercrest. Our wrestling team features the Provincial and National champ - Harry Purewal and up and coming Serena Kind. In rugby, the Jr. Boys have won the AAA Fraser Valley Championship under head coaches Clayton Radons, and Scott Hunter. While the Sr. Boys came 16th in the provincial tournament at UBC under Coach Primrose. In the first year of girls' rugby, both the Jr. and Sr. Ultimate Team won their final "provincial" tournament. In 2010 Yale Senior Boys Basketball Team have won the Fraser Valley Championship and the Provincial Championship. The team was led by seniors Marek Klassen, Matt Letkeman, Dino Sehomerovic, Darrell Popken, Mersad Masic and Grade 11s Nakai Luyken and Jordan Blackman
