Unlike standard parser generators, Xtext not only generates a parser, but also a model for the Abstract Syntax Tree and a full-featured, customizable Eclipse editor.

History

The first version of Xtext was published in 2006 under the openArchitectureWare project. Then, each version released afterwards integrated new functions and concepts. The last version released under the oAW project is version 4.3. Since the beginning of 2008, Xtext is developed under the Eclipse Modeling Project in the Textual Modeling Framework (TMF) subproject.
