. The town moved to Pickering when it was bypassed by the railroad. It was named for Xenia, Ohio

, and ceased to exist in the 1870s. A small sign now marks the spot where the town was.

There was a small civil war skirmish fought in Xenia between units of Union Iowa Calvary and Confederates from southern Nodaway County. The purpose of the attack by Union forces was to drive to the Nodaway County Seat at Maryville and free it from Confederate occupation. From all records the Union forces were turned back but little else is recorded.
