The area was originally used for logging and later settle with various summer homes. Remnants of logging are still visible in the pylons located on the beach.

Today the area is moderately developed with a mix of old homes and large homes making use of the beautiful views the hillside offers. The area once settled mostly by retirees now has many families and young couples.

The beach is now private and accessible only through a gate owned by the Woodmont Country Club.
