Commercial release

"Where You Are" was the second commercial single to be released from Sweet Kisses. The single was released on January 2, 2000, and it charted in the top five (number four) on the Billboard US Single Sales Chart. The single, which was not as successful as her debut, went on to sell around 100,000 copies within the US alone (the single was not released anywhere else). The first edition of the single was released as a maxi-single containing club mixes, the later edition released (limited release only) contained the radio edit and an instrumental album version of the song.

Chart performance

"Where You Are" was relatively unsuccessful, especially in comparison with the success of its predecessor, "I Wanna Love You Forever". The track failed to reach even the top fifty of the Billboard Hot 100

, peaking at sixty-two. The song did, however, become a relative Adult Contemporary hit.

On the dance charts, the song was not received by dance fans on the dance floor, and failed to chart on Hot Dance Music/Club Play. Strangely enough though, dance fans reacted strongly to the physical single of the song and the song became a hit on the Hot Dance Music/Maxi-Singles Sales reaching number four. Critics of Billboard Magazine have explained this seeming contradiction by pointing out that the physical single had a previously unreleased remix of "I Wanna Love You Forever" included on it, so that may have helped sales.

Internationally, the song was not released in major music markets excluding Canada.
