Westville was the county seat

 from 1827 to 1887 when the seat was moved to Mendenhall, Mississippi. In 1905, the seat was briefly returned to Westville, but returned to Mendenhall the next year.

The courthouse was built originally in 1827, but burned a few years later. It was rebuilt, but burned again, before finally being rebuilt a final time of brick.

Today all that remains of the original Westville is the cemetery.
