History

Westona station was opened on 21 January 1985, by then Minister for Transport Steve Crabb as part of the new extension linking Altona with Laverton. The link to Laverton was not opened until 11 April 1985.

Westona was named by Alan and Betty Angus by winning a council run contest to find a new name. As the new station was west of Altona, Alan suggested Westona, and won the competition.
