History

Back in the early days, (circa 1700), a schoolhouse was built on the town common. It was 2 floors. Bottom floor for children, and the top floor was for West Springfield High School. In 1915, a new high school was built on Elm Street, across what is now the library. The school was there for 40 years until the city's population went upward. Then they needed a bigger high school. In 1955, what used to be a farm was now a high school. In 1965 and addition was added on.

As of early 2011, the construction of a new campus is currently in the late planning stages. The deadline for pre-qualified subcontractors to bid on the new high school was October 27, 2011. Groundbreaking is scheduled for mid-December 2011.
