The attempt to use a De Dion-Bouton
De Dion-Bouton
De Dion-Bouton was a French automobile manufacturer and railcar manufacturer operating from 1883 to 1932. The company was founded by the Marquis Jules-Albert de Dion, Georges Bouton and his brother-in-law Charles Trépardoux....

engine in a bicycle frame in 1896 resulted in failure. But in 1897 they succeeded in creating a moto bicycle with the engine mounted on the front steering head that achieved some success.

The most significant success in moto bicycle design came in 1900 with a patented frame design in which the engine is mounted at the bottom of the frame. By this time the company was also making their own engines rather than buying them from De Dion-Bouton as had been the case previously.

Werner was also the first or one of the first to produce a moto bicycle with a two cylinder Vertical Twin engine in 1903 with a capacity of 500 cc.

Werner licensed MMC in England to sell their line of motorcycles.

When both brothers died in 1908 the company failed.
