, and enrolls approximately 800 students. Built on the former Wells Estate, Wellwood opened in the 1920s as Fayetteville High School, and has been added onto and remodeled many times since. What is now the auditorium was then known as the "Fayetteville Playhouse" and attracted many significant celebrities to its stage. There auditorium has been remodeled and is know the home of concerts and band rehearsals. Joanie Mahoney recently made a speech there, bringing attention to the small school. The school's current predecessors are Fayetteville Elementary School and Mott Road Elementary School. The current principal is Melissa Corbin. The school has various special classes (non-academics) including physical education, technology, music, art, Computer, and home economics]. The school also teaches the Spanish, French, Latin and German languages, though they are offered only in 8th grade. Depending on grades in the previous year, some students may be placed into Algebra Honors, which replaces Math 8, or Earth Science Regents, which replaces Science 8, in 8th grade. The school also hosts a successful Division B Science Olympiad team; it placed 5th in New York State in the 2009 and 2010 competitions.
Next to the school there is a small lake and park where it is said that their are coffins underneath the land. Also a boy who may have died from a skiing accident may be haunting the school. Many times during the day doors are slammed as well as many unidentified noises. He may be roaming the halls.

Athletics

Athletics are open to all 7th and 8th graders and based on your skill level in a sport you may skip playing in Modified and play in Freshman or even Varsity or Varsity.
