station, WYYD launched on January 16, 1981 with the callsign WCNV, branded as "FM 108 WCNV".

WCNV switched its callsign to WYYD at midnight on November 18, 1985 and launched the branding as "108 WYYD". At first, it used the slogan "Today's Best Country and Your All-Time Favorites", and then during the late 2000s, "Virginia's Best Country" was used. On September 3, 2010, WYYD changed to "Country 107-9 WYYD" along with the slogan "The Widest Variety of Country Music".
