Prior to its flip to Rhythmic in 2002, the station was an Oldies outlet. The move was part of a shakeup in the market when sister station WNNK

 shifted to Adult Top 40 and to counter Rhythmic-leaning Top 40 Mainstream rival upstart WHKF-FM

WWKL used to be at 94.9 with the moniker KOOL 94.9, playing oldies. KOOL 94.9 (later KOOL 99.3) achieved legendary status in Central PA, often admired by programmers all over the country; in fact, a frequent comment about KOOL 94.9 (99.3) was that "you could put KOOL in any major market in the USA, and it would kick butt."

HD Radio

Cumulus Broadcasting began upgrading its stations to HD Radio broadcasting in 2005. One of the first ten stations to be upgraded was WWKL.

Frequency Change

On September 16, 2011 WWKL moved from 92.1 FM Palmyra, PA to 93.5 FM Mechanicsburg, PA, swapping frequencies with rock-formatted WTPA.
