The station went on the air as WMZD on May 10, 2004. On March 9, 2006, the station changed its call sign to WSGA and on March 16, 2006 to the current WSSJ,

A New York court has appointed a receiver named Scott Savage who has applied for involuntary transfer of the station licenses. The FCC consented to the assignment of the licenses to Savage (as receiver), on February 26, 2009.
