The station broadcasts with a power of 1.2 kW. WSMF's construction permit to upgrade to 2.8 kW expired on March 1, 2009. On March 3, 2009, an application was filed with the FCC similar to the expired construction permit with only a slight change in the directional pattern.

WSMF began broadcasting in December 2002 as WJOF and carried Joy FM programming from WHYT
