990-AM began in 1965 as the original WERK

 "990 Werk" with a Top 40 format, built by the Poorman family, who operated an ad agency. Wife Bettie is still well at 88 years. Bill Shirk later operated the station. The call letters moved to 104.9 FM (the former WWHC in Hartford City) now with an oldies format.

Electronic Applications Radio Service acquired the frequency in March 2000 and resurrected the former daytime-only station by means of an STA

 (special temporary authority) granted by the FCC and returned to the air with 67 watts. An FCC engineer used to take Field Intensity Readings of the monitor points. It was granted the callsign WLHN in 1999. The callsign was switched to WRFM in March 2003, with Electronic Applications Radio Service being the new licensee.

Call sign history

WRFM was previously the famed WERK Muncie. Home Of Tom Cochran David Letterman and Bill Shirk.

At 990 kHz WRFM (then the original WERK) first signed on in 1965 from a 90 acre 6 tower array South of Muncie.

The station broadcasts an oldies format from The True Oldies Channel.

The WRFM callsign was first used in 1957 at a station on 105.1 MHz in New York City, for a station owned by William Reumann (named after his initials).

After WRFM was sold, the call sign was changed. That station is now WWPR-FM
