 began to build a new FM in the Spring of 1975. The station was completed in early Summer of 1975 and began broadcasting on frequency 93.5 FM. The new station initial format was beautiful music

The first music director for the new FM station was Russell Fig, who had helped build the station. The FM station began broadcasting in stereo with 150 watts of power.

In August 2008, WAXM began streaming live online. They are the first Southwestern Virginia station to broadcast online.
