WAVV 101.1 FM is Southwest Florida's most listened to radio station. Located in Naples, and put on the air by Naples resident Norm Alpert, in 1987, WAVV continues to hold its market share at number one for nearly 14 consecutive years. With 100,000 watts of power, the station's coverage spans from Sarasota to Ft. Lauderdale. WAVV is also the last independent radio station in Southwest Florida. The station is still owned and operated by the Alpert family. Effective 3/2/2009 WAVV ceased streaming live on the internet. However, streaming returned in June, 2011. WAVV began broadcasting using HD radio technology in May 2008.
