Visualase
Encyclopedia
Visualase, Inc. founded in 2005 as a spin-off from BioTex, Inc., is focused on laser and image-guided technologies for thermal ablation. They developed the Visualase Laser Thermal Ablation System referred to as "Visualase" in which energy is delivered directly into a lesion. Light is delivered through fiber-optic cable, heating a diffusing tip. At the same time, the doctor can watch the temperature and estimated damage over live MR images, as the procedure happens. This technology marries MRI, laser and ablation technologies making this process less invasive and more precise.

Visualase is not FDA approved for use in any specific treatment. It is FDA cleared to necrotize soft tissue under MRI guidance.
