'Vikrant Rai' is a popular young face in Indian television. The extremely goodlooking and talented actor Vikrant Rai used to essay the role of Kshitij in "Ghar ki lakshmi..Betiyaan" & Jeet in "Maayka". Vikrant Rai gained his popularity, especially among the coquettish young dames, as they found him matching to their wavelengths. His unbound energy onscreen matched ditto with them. Dribbling with his career in the small screen with Maayka & Ghar Ki Lakshmi Betiyaan, Vikrant made an indelible imprint among the viewers , before leaving it all to pursue his film career. Vikrant Rai first came to prominence as a supporting cast member in the mega budget TV series Kkavyanjali(2005-06) on "Star Plus" produced under Balaji production house run by Indian soap queen 'Ekta Kapoor'. This was Vikrant's first breakthrough. This serial also marked the television debut of yesteryear popular filmstar/actress 'Amrita Singh' post her divorce with Bollywood's superstar 'Saif Ali Khan'. He appeared in the role of youngest sibling of the male lead portrayed by popular television actor 'Eijaz Khan'. Despite having a face most suited for soft/romantic characters , 'Vikrant' won rave reviews for portraying a negative character and made people take notice of him as a newcomer who is here to stay. Later 'Vikrant' rose to fame with the two smash hit TV series Maayka(2007-09) & Ghar Ki Lakshmi Betiyaan(2006-08) on "Zee TV". In both the shows he was cast in the lead role. In Maayka he essayed the role of a straightforward dashing youngster who is a singer in a club, co-starring with popular TV actresses 'Neha Bamb' & 'Arti Singh', while in Ghar Ki Lakshmi Betiyaan he played the role of a taciturn lover who is s soft, kind hearted youth starring opposite another popular TV actress 'Kshitee Jog' in a performance best remembered as "intense" and "tightly clenched". However after creating a firm fan following around the globe, he left both the shows withinn few months due to controversy between him and channel. He was replaced by actor 'Romit Raj' in Maayka & by Hemant Thatte in Ghar Ki Lakshmi Betiyaan. After that he became serious about his Bollywood dreams and started pursuing starring roles in films , which made him reject many lucrative offers from television in the leading role. In an interview to local newspaper "Afternoon" , 'Vikrant' had said he doesn't diffrentiate between TV series and movies. it's just a matter of choice what u want to do at that point of your life. In september 2007 , Rai appeared in a music album Phir Bewafai produced by India's leading music company "T-series" in a song titled Mere Dil Ki Hai Awaaz. The song shot in limited budget was a sleeper hit. In 2008, he signed his first film Kya Time Hai Yaar in the lead role co-starring with the likes of senior/prominent film actors like 'Jackie Shroff' , 'Asrani' , 'Mukesh Tiwari' and 'Sanjay Mishra'. It was a small budget comedy film produced by relatively unknown producers 'Sanjay Kapur' & 'Anju Rajiv' under the banner Shri Omh Creations. The film never released. Thereafter Rai appeared in a small yet noticeable part of a young D.J called Imran in the film Dunno Y Naa Jaane Kyun(2009), touted as India's answer to Hollywood blockbuster Brokeback Mountain. The film was a disaster at the Box Office , though claimed to have done well in overseas market. It was India's first gay love story to be dished out commercially from Indian Cinema. The film premiered at the Kashish Mumbai International Queer Film Festival in April 2010.
